Jessica Quintos, a Junior at UC Santa Barbara, has recently returned from Florence, Italy, where she interned with The Foundation for Photo/Art in Hospitals during a semester abroad. Jessica’s role was to work with hospitals all over the world to receive donations of beautiful nature photographs which bring light, color, soothing images, comfort and hope to patients and families. Jessica, a Gilroy native, immediately thought of St. Louise & O’Connor Hospitals and helped acquire 15 gorgeous photographs for each hospital to display. The pieces selected can be seen in the ICU consultation room and in the Pediatrics unit.

The Foundation for Photo/Art in Hospitals was formed after artist, Elaine Poggi, lost her mother due to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The non-profit, publicly-supported organization is dedicated to placing colorful, soothing photographs of nature in hospitals. The Foundation has placed more than 5,000 nature photos in more than 300 healthcare facilities on seven continents. The subjects in the photographs range from vibrant and colorful florals, to peaceful tropical beaches, and the glorious Tuscan hills.
