Radiation therapy is a treatment that uses high-energy radiation beams to kill cancer cells and stop them from spreading. For many cancer patients, it is an integral part of the treatment to stop the cancer or slow its growth.
At O’Connor Hospital, our on-site radiation therapy team includes board-certified radiation oncologists and an expert support team. With advanced training and extensive experience, we offer skilled care to manage and treat most types of cancer .
We use the latest techniques such as 3-D conformal and IMRT. These advanced treatments allow physicians to aim high doses of radiation at the cancer while reducing the radiation exposure to nearby healthy tissue.
RADIATION THERAPY: WHAT TO EXPECT
A typical treatment involves daily radiation therapy Monday through Friday, with Saturday and Sunday off. This interruption in treatment allows healthy cells time to recover. Depending on the type and location of the cancer, the treatments can last from two to eight weeks.
We partner with referring physicians and the specialists to provide you with exceptional personalized and integrated cancer care.
Our team includes:
- Dosimetrists, who determine the right dose of radiation
- Oncology nurses
